All about me is what the title of this link is but in reality it is all about you, here's why;
Let me introduce myself to you, my name is Jennifer Bianchi. In 1997, after a three year illness and weight loss, I was diagnosed with Celiac Sprue, a gluten intolerance disease. Left untreated I would have died from this disease due to the malabsorption it had caused. I was referred to the dietitian at the hospital who was of little help to me; she only gave me a sheet of paper with foods to avoid which left me feeling exhausted, let down, and not knowing what to eat.
This is when I got the idea that I needed to go back to school and get a nutrition degree. I did not want any more people leaving a dietitian’s office with little to no information. After I received my degree I worked at Everett Providence Medical Center in the clinical nutrition department for six years. I was considered the resident gluten free expert helping to make gluten free menus and educational handouts for patients. I also worked on the heart/medical surgery floors, teaching heart healthy diets and Diabetic meal planning. I saw countless people who needed to have bypass surgery as a result of untreated cardiac disease and diabetes. I enjoyed the one on one time I spent with patients, discussing strategies to help improve their diets, but after their surgery I did not see them again. Part of me always wondered how they were doing and if they were following the changes we had discussed. At least a couple times per week I would be asked if I had my own business where they could come to for nutrition counseling.
This is why I started The Healthier You, and this is why it is all about YOU. I do not want to spend just half an hour with someone and expect them to understand and change to new way of eating, nor do I want people to struggle like I did to find answers. I want the people who come in contact with me to get a clear understanding of what they need to do to be healthier. Whether you have weight issues, diabetes, or celiac disease, you deserve to be able to get the answers you need to be a Healthier You!
